The film is directed by Matt Shakman (Wanda Vision), and it will be the big MCU film that will kick off Phase 6. Friedman has a lot of experience working on sci-fi projects, which also includes Steven Spielberg’S War of the Worldsalso developed TNT Snow puncher series, of which he was the author and creator Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chroniclesand also worked Terminator: Dark Fate.
The writer is very talented and it will be interesting to see what he comes up with Fantastic Four! When previously talking about the film, Kevin Feige said Marvel’s First Family will be a big pillar of the MCU’s future. He said:
“The only other in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We kind of talked about mutants and that whole aspect of the Marvel world, but the Fantastic Four is the basis for everything that has come since in the comics. There have definitely been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the MCU narrative. And that’s something that’s really exciting for us. People will start hearing about it soon. We plan to be a big mainstay of the MCU in the future, just like they’ve been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.
Marvel producer Stephen Brussard previously promised that the film will be a true celebration of the comic book source material:
“I don’t assume I know everything about that movie; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and Tony’s casting that I think resonated today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They are older than me and I guess they are also older than you. I’ve been around for a while for a reason, [so we] lean on that.
Not much is known about the project. The casting is “readying up” and the studio is looking to cast Sue Storm first. They will then build the team around her. Jodie Comer (Eve killing) has been talked about for the role, but nothing is set in stone yet.
Fantastic Four arrives in theaters February 14, 2025.
