The youngest Oscar winner Sarah Polley showed her great shock on Saturday morning when she received a letter saying she had won her award by mistake and that she must return it to the Academy.
The Canadian filmmaker who won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay women talk Last month it was said:
“We tell you this with the deepest regret: the Oscar you received was randomly awarded.”
The letter told her to “send it back” to California and explained that she could keep the prize for a week so she could “enjoy his presence” before it was sent to the “rightful winner.” No news from the western front.”
The letter said the organizers acknowledged their mistake that night but wanted to avoid another one la La Land/Moonlight Error for the cameras.
And then… Polley discovers that the letter was not from the Academy, but from her 11-year-old child, in a most effective April Fool’s joke.
As Polley said in the letter she shared on Twitter yesterday, her child “went a long way” this year…
