Crunchyroll has released a new English-dubbed trailer for the new anime film Suzumefrom which it derives Makoto Shinkaithe director of anime movies like Your name AND Withstand the elements with you. It tells the story of a girl who meets a mysterious boy, and the two get caught up in the middle of a war where they have to close disastrous portals unleashed by a lovable demon cat. Oh, and that cat turns her mysterious new friend into a sentient chair. Yes! It will be funny!

The synopsis reads:

Suzume” is a coming-of-age story for 17-year-old protagonist, Suzume, set in various disaster-stricken locations across Japan, where she has to close the doors causing devastation.

Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she meets a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume finds is a single weathered door that stands amidst the ruins as if protected from whatever catastrophe strikes. Seemingly drawn to his power, Suzume reaches for the handle… Gates begin to open one after another across Japan, wreaking havoc on anyone nearby. Suzume must close these portals to avoid further disasters.

—The stars, then the sunset and the morning sky.

Within that realm, it was as if all time had merged together in the sky…

New scenarios, encounters and farewells… A myriad of challenges await her on her journey. Despite all the obstacles in her way, Suzume’s adventure shines a ray of hope upon our own struggles against the more difficult roads of anxiety and constraints that make up everyday life. This story of closed doors linking our past to the present and future will leave a lasting impression on all of our hearts.

Attracted by these mysterious doors, Suzume’s journey is about to begin.

Suzume will be released in theaters in the US on April 14th! I have enjoyed the previous films that Shinkai has made, and this one will take the audience on quite a journey!
