Marvel Studios has hired Lee Sung JinNetflix creator and showrunner Beefto work on the screenplay for the upcoming Lightning movie. This will be his first feature film writing credit. Previously she has worked on shows such as Tuca & Bertie, DaveAND Silicon Valley.

The director of Lightning, Jake Schreieron which he previously worked Beef as a director, so this is a reunion for the two creative talents. OH! And then, of course, there is Steven Yeunwho recently came aboard the film, in which he also starred Beef. AS, Lightning it’s a big happy Beef meeting.
Lee shared with Variety, “I’m rewriting this. It’s the whole team again. Jake asked if I’d come on board. I probably should have taken a break, but there are a lot of exciting themes and things in the film that I couldn’t help but sign on to.
He added, “It’s truly an honor to be a part of a Marvel thing, but it’s very different. One, it’s not my project, it’s Jake’s. It is such a large scope and scale that the writing is very different. At the same time, the process feels the same, I still talk to Jake every day. … I think once you find the team of people that you love and trust and are so talented, you do whatever it takes to keep working with them.
The film has a great ensemble cast which includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Port as Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as an agent of the United States, Hannah John Kamen like ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and of course Florence Pug as Yelena Belova. Then, there is Harrison Fordwho is taking on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross who will become president of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri he also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.
We don’t know much about what the Thunderbolts story will involve, but we recently learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feigeand shared that Bucky Barnes is set to lead the team in the film.
The film is directed by Jake Schreier (Paper city, Make fun of), from a screenplay by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) AND Kurt Busiek. Lightning will premiere on July 26, 2023.
