Electronic Entertainment Expo 2023, also known as E3, has been cancelled. The organization made the announcement today in an email that was sent to its members yesterday. IGN shared what was said in that email, and while E3 “remains a beloved event and brand,” the event that was planned for this summer, “just didn’t garner the sustained interest needed to execute it in a way that showcased the size, strength and impact of our industry.”

The Entertainment Software Association also released the following public statement from Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming, ReedPop:
This was a tough decision due to all the efforts we and our partners have put into making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that the affected companies would not have playable demos ready and that resource challenges made attendance at E3 this summer a hurdle they could not overcome. For those committed to E3 2023, we’re sorry we couldn’t put on the showcase you deserve and have come to expect from ReedPop event experiences.
The press release adds that ReedPop and ESA will continue to work together on “future E3 events.” So, we haven’t seen the last of E3. The gaming industry has changed so much over the years and E3 is not what it used to be, especially now that all PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo have their own events. It’s still a fun and relaxing event to attend, and it’s a shame it’s not happening this year.
