The film is the protagonist Richard Maden (Eternals) AND Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantum) as two secret agents who have had their minds wiped and find themselves on a mission around the world to stop the rise of a dark new world order.

Speaking about the series in a recent interview with Total Film, Joe Russo explained that the series was very inspired by Bond:

“It’s a neat way to put it, definitely. I mean, we loved Bond growing up. We’re huge Bond fans, but our job is to try to take what we love about these kinds of genres and films that have influenced us and find ways to propel them into spaces and places that surprise us… Our job as storytellers is not to bring you another version of Bond. Our job as storytellers is to bring you a new experience that you are excited and surprised by. So we hope to have hit the target, we’ll see.

“This is a genre that traditionally has a male lead, so what was interesting for us was flipping that. Priyanka is really physically gifted. She’s a badass in front of the camera and kicks a lot on the show. Without giving too much away, his character is driving a lot of the action for the better part of the series, and Richard’s character is catching up. It was a really interesting and exciting idea for us.”

It feels like a great series with high quality production value, which makes sense because this is one of the most expensive shows ever produced with a budget of over $200 million. This is a passionate project for the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salkethat he was looking for a big project to make a splash, and this is a “avengersspy show style, with spies from key countries teaming up for the final mission. Here is the synopsis:

Eight years ago, the Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency charged with upholding the safety and security of all people has been destroyed by the agents of Manticore, a powerful syndicate that manipulates the world from the shadows. With the fall of Citadel, elite operatives Mason Kane (Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped. They have remained in hiding ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their past.

Until one night, Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (The Inside Man’s Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to stop the Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason searches for his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that will take them across the globe in an effort to stop Manticore, all while battling a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous but everlasting love. .

The series is also starring Lesley Manville (Ghost Thread, The Crown) as Dahlia Archer, the British Ambassador to the United States, whose loyalty may lie elsewhere. Highly cunning and ambitious, Archer is both a valuable asset and a formidable foe.

Citadel is the first in what Amazon calls “the beginning of an original franchise-slash-universe with interconnected stories spanning the globe. The plan also included spinoffs that would see the spy characters “have their own adventures on their own turf. India, Italy and Mexico”.

The six-episode first season of Citadel will release its first two episodes on April 28 on Amazon Prime Video, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly on Fridays through May 26. Enjoy the new trailer! The series has already been renewed for a second season.
