Eiji Aonumamanufacturer for The Legend of Zelda series, showed off another gameplay from the upcoming game Kingdom tears. This is a direct sequel (a very rare occurrence for the franchise) to the 2017 hit video game Breath of the wild. In the video, we see Link using a new ability called Recall that lets you rewind an item which is pretty cool. We see a series of floating islands to explore. I also just noticed that Link has a different hairstyle than Breath of the wild. In Kingdom tearsshe just lets her hair down.

Constructs are a new enemy that fans will encounter that look similar to the Guardians, but look definitely related to the kids from Sword to the sky. Another new ability of Link is Fusion, which allows you to combine items and I love it! We see Aonuma using it to fuse a boulder onto a tree branch which will improve the weapon’s durability and potency. We also see a long stick cast with a pitchfork for a ridiculously long weapon and it’s insanely awesome! I was already pumped for Kingdom tears, but seeing the new Fuse ability sold me 1000%! Fusing Keese’s eyeball with an arrow to create a quest arrow is game changing.
A third new skill shown is Ultrahand which will allow you to attach and detach objects together to create new things. The example shown combines some logs and a fan to make a raft. It’s pretty cool.
Link will also have a phasing ability called Ascend that lets you pass through ceilings. Some restrictions will apply according to Aonuma, but he assures fans that it will work most of the time when there is a ceiling. You can use it to make crossing easier apparently and I love it.
When we see Link descending from floating islands to the surface, it looks a lot like Fortnite. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just very similar and fun to me. I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled Kingdom tears out May 12 for Nintendo Switch. You can pre-order the game digitally from Nintendo eShop and your favorite retailers such as GameStop (affiliate link).
There was one final announcement made after the new gameplay footage. It took Nintendo about a minute to show off and announce a Kingdom tears edition of the Nintendo Switch OLED which will be available on April 28th. It looks gorgeous! A similarly themed Pro Controller and case will also be available for purchase on May 12. Eventually you will be able to order items from your preferred retailer and from the My Nintendo Store.
