WME, Inevitable Foundation Partners on Initiative to Empower Disabled Writers

WME is partnering with the Inevitable Foundation, the non-profit organization that helps disabled screenwriters reach their full commercial and creative potential, on a new initiative to empower them.

Although there is no official name for the initiative, the Inevitable Foundation will push to use the leading agency’s expertise, resources and connections to break down barriers for disabled writers. The Foundation now receives funding from WME, which also works with its TV and MP agents to increase development and staffing opportunities for disabled writers, and offers its Accelerate Fellows opportunities for mentorship from well-known agency clients.

“We are excited to partner with WME to help writers with disabilities build creative power in the film and television industry,” said Richie Siegel and Marisa Torelli-Pedevska, co-founders of the Inevitable Foundation. “Writers with disabilities account for just 0.15% of first watch and overall ratings, 3% of top TV writers and less than 1% of WGA. For an industry broker like WME to put its power behind radically transforming the entertainment community’s appreciation of people with disabilities will make a significant difference in this battle.

WME President Ari Greenburg added, “There simply isn’t enough access for writers from underrepresented groups, and this is even more evident among the disabled population. Richie and Marisa put together a thoughtful plan to address this issue, and WME is proud to support them and the Inevitable Foundation to give writers with disabilities more opportunities to bring their stories to the big screen.

Since its inception in 2021, the Inevitable Foundation has awarded more than a quarter of a million dollars directly to screenwriters with disabilities through its Accelerate Fellowship, Elevate Collective and Elevate for Podcasters programs, which provide creatives with additional opportunities for job placement, professional development, funding, networking and mentoring.
