Disney fires Marvel Entertainment president Ike Perlmutter

Disney Studios is in the process of a massive layoff, with the CEO Bob Iger about 7,000 job cuts. The layoffs are a way to cut the $5.5 billion needed to improve the company’s financial numbers because, you know, Disney doesn’t make enough money. The layoffs are mostly meant to line the pockets of the company’s top executives, but they won’t say so. It’s just the big business way.

However, there is one top executive who has lost his job in the process, the president of Marvel Entertainment… Isaac (Ike) Perlmutter. This report comes from the New York Times and has been confirmed by Disney.

He’s been a thorn in Disney and Marvel’s sides and the cause of feuding for years, so this has given them the opportunity to get rid of him for good so they never have to deal with him again. He was reportedly given the news via a phone call and also told that Marvel Entertainment will be incorporated into Disney’s larger corporate units.

I’m sure this will make Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige very happy, as Perlmutter attempted to bring back Fire Feige in 2015.

Regarding the controversial layoffs, Iger wrote in a memo to the company, “The difficult reality of many colleagues and friends leaving Disney is not something we take lightly. This company is home to the most talented and dedicated employees in the world, and so many of you bring a passion for Disney to your work here. That’s part of what makes working at Disney so special. It also makes it even harder to say goodbye to the wonderful people we care about. I want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to all employees who are leaving for their many contributions and devotion to this beloved company.”

While it sucks to see so many people lose their jobs at Disney, at least Ike Perlmutter is out. Marvel Entertainment will now move to Marvel Studios, run by Kevin Feige.
