Broadway The skim of the opera had another great sober week at the Majestic, grossing more than $3 million for the second week in a row as the countdown continues until the end of April 16.
Meanwhile, another villainous character – the bloodthirsty killer of the ecstatic condemned Sweeney Todd, Fleet Street’s diabolical hairdresser – also did well, selling its opening week at Lunt-Fontanne for a gross of $1,394,402. The average ticket price was $132.98.
The two productions were major contributors to Broadway’s total gross of $32,656,200 for the week ending March 26. This is down 4% on the previous week, although the number of visitors remained stable at 259,758. The receipts reflect a slightly lower average ticket price, at least partly due to the annual Kids Week promotion, which gives under 18s free entry to gave 21 of Broadway’s 31 shows.
Evil Cinderella, the new musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, also opened at the Imperial (although to far less good reviews). With an attendance rate of 91% but an average ticket price of $62.24, the musical grossed $633,929.
Three newcomers to the selection in particular showed promise New York, New York, The musical Kander & Ebb (& Miranda), which sold out all seats in its first two performances at the St. James took in, grossed $418,601 with an average ticket price of $127.16.
First examples were:
- Thick ham, which grossed $216,478 for five previews at the American Airlines Theater with an attendance of 96% of capacity and an average ticket price of $63.97. Premiere is April 12;
- The Thanksgiving Game, which grossed $87,401 from three previews at 90% occupancy at Hayes. The second stage production of the Larissa Fasthorse comedy, directed by Rachel Chavkin, opens April 20.
Modest ticket prices helped watch life of pi And peeled off sit down in the Schönfeld or in the Holländer. CamelotPreviews at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater grossed an impressive $859,627, filling 92% of seats with a solid average ticket price of $112.08.
The well-rated ones march continued his strong run, collecting $1,127,073 with the Jacobs.
In the season to date, Broadway has grossed $1,308,270,364 with a total attendance of 10,115,275 at an 88% seat load rate.
