Universal Pictures is moving forward with a remake of the classic 1956 horror film The mole people. The project was presented to the studio by Chris Winterbauer, and obviously the studio liked what they heard! Winterbauer will write the screenplay for the film and Walking Dead Creator Robert Kirkmann is set to produce.

The original film tells the story of archaeologists, who find a lost underground city of pale people and mutant slaves. The denizens of darkness are led by a high priest who rules over the mole people and is threatened by the newcomers and wants to kill them.

The new film will follow a woman who travels to “a city veiled in a conspiracy to rescue her grandchildren from their father. To do this, she must fight the hell out of the underground tunnels where the Mole People reside.

This may not be one of the most popular horror films in Universal’s vault, but it’s a fun film, and I actually like that they’re trying to revamp it for a new generation of audiences. It looks like it could be a great movie that will be a blast to watch!
