‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is off to a strong start in early overseas runs

With overseas release beginning Wednesday, Lionsgate/Thunder Road Films/87 Eleven’s John Wick: Chapter 4 started strong at the international box office. In just a handful of markets, the numbers we’re hearing are around $3.9 million, including Thursday’s launches in Australia and New Zealand. As Anthony reported, Thursday’s domestic previews of around $8 million look like a franchise high, according to industry estimates.

The Keanu Reeves Fourquel opens this weekend in 71 international box office markets, the biggest daily footprint for the franchise, which has previously tended to appear shaky. Global outlook for the weekend is $115 million, including $45 million from overseas. John Wick: Chapter 3 – ParabellumIts 2019 international debut was $36.9 million for $93.75 million worldwide, a previous record worldwide debut for the series. parabellum did not have Germany, France and Spain in the opening suite, although these large territories were included Chapter 4‘s first frames.

We know that paid previews in Latin America reached $994,000 on Wednesday, led by Brazil for $328,000 and followed by Mexico with $240,000. Only about 60% of Latin American cinemas offered Sneaks, which bodes well for the upcoming weekend. Reeves visited the CCXP in Brazil last December to promote the picture.

There were also recent premieres in the Berlin Zoo Palast and in the Grand Rex in Paris.

France the Chad Stahelski-directed film opened at #1 with $543,000 across 557 screens. Social unrest sweeps the country with protests in major cities, yet the launch was 35% ahead JW3. Chapter 4 has the best reviews and ratings of the series on AlloCiné.

In Taiwan, JW4 was #1 with an estimated $418,000, up 17%. JW3 and 273% from last weekend’s opening Shazam! wrath of the gods.

Australia On Thursday, it bowed to $681,000 across 259 screens ($1 million including Wednesday previews). The opening day accounted for 66% of the total box office, with 56% ahead. JW3. Launch day was the biggest since Studiocanal Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and the best of all non-studio titles since Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

The completion of the tip begins, New Zealand raised $140,000 by Thursday, 36% JW3; Sweden ($100,000) and Finland ($74,000) both open JW4 Wednesday in 1st place. The start in Sweden was 105% ahead JW3 while Finland was on par with this film.

Britain and Spain in particular open today. Typically, the top markets for the franchise have been a mix of the UK, Germany, Mexico, Australia and Korea – the latter of which opened in April along with the Middle East. Japan goes into autumn.
