During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Favreau was asked how long the story will run The Mandalorian, and it won’t happen anytime soon. He’s having too much fun doing this show! He said:

“I’m having a great time, and I love working with Dave, and I love how the characters develop over time. I also love that there are other stories that are being told at the same time, like Ahsoka and the Skeleton Crew.”

The fact that the universe is growing is giving more for Favreau and Dave Filoni play with! Characters like Ahsoka, Boba Fett, Bo-Katan, Fennec Shand and more will allow this Mandalorian universe to move forward. Favreau went on to explain:

“Now there seems to be a bigger context for me to understand. Because we just knew what happened next [The Mandalorian], and we knew what happened before, and there’s a lot to draw from additional stories that have been told outside of what’s considered official canon now, but it’s very dear to fans who have been working on it for decades. And so we like to take that into consideration.”

He went on to talk about how much he enjoyed working on the show:

“I’ve really had an amazing time and I love these characters and I love seeing how they’re growing together. I’ve really enjoyed working with this group of people and I love collaborating with all these different directors and different storytellers, both from the directors we work with and other showrunners like Dave and others like it [Skeleton Crew’s] Jon Watts and Chris Ford.”

Speaking about the collaborative format of the series, he talked about how much he appreciates the creative team:

“It’s a really wonderful format, and you’re starting to really appreciate that you have such a good team around you that, for every new film, you should put together. But [with The Mandalorian] we inherit this amazing group of talented people that we could work with every year.”

Favreau later shared that he doesn’t “know what I would enjoy doing, especially as long as the audience connects with these characters.” He added: “This feels like a really nice moment. And I love this format of telling one chapter at a time and keeping the audience guessing, but also meeting certain expectations.”

So basically, Favreau will continue to work on this show for as long as possible.
