Kiefer Sutherland has some interesting and great ideas for some 24 revival series that include both his character and not

Kiefer Sutherland is returning to TV in Paramount+’s upcoming action thriller Rabbit holein which John Weir (Kiefer Sutherland), a master of corporate espionage, finds himself at the center of a dark conspiracy. This one sounds right up his alley since he is best known for playing Jack Bauer in the original nine-season series 24as well as its follow-up limited spin-off Live another day.

Fans have wondered for many years if Sutherland would ever be ready to return to the role once more, and there have been many discussions over the years to bring him back. Now, Sutherland is promoting his next series, but he has some interesting ideas in mind if the opportunity to return to 24 It shows up.

The actor recently sat down with EW and spoke fondly about the making of the original series, saying:

“I mean, it was the best time of my life. I was in my early 30s, so I was physically capable. I wasn’t 20, so I was a little smarter, not much, but a little smarter. And I got to do it for 10 years, which is, I guarantee you, the most stable opportunity any actor could ever have.So for all of those reasons, and just because of the amazing people I got to do it with – and by the way , it’s so nice to do something that people like. [Laughs] Because I’ve had the other side, where I’ve done some stuff where people are like, ‘Yeah, that sucks.’ I guarantee you that the other version is more beautiful. It’s been incredibly special to me and I’d love to see it continue.”

When asked if he and series showrunner Howard Gordon have talked about bringing him back, he said:

“Howard and I talk all the time and it invariably comes up. The idea of him being brought back — I’m just spitting — I think it’s an interesting idea. You introduce a new group of people in their attempt to bring it out, and he lives by that period There are many ways to do this.

He went on to add:

“I also think it’s a great idea to capture a 24-hour moment in the life of someone who’s desperate – and that could be a firefighter; it could be so many different circumstances. It blows my mind that someone hasn’t come and said, ‘Well , We have to do it This with it.’ So whether or not I get involved, I just think doing something in real time is so smart — hard, but smart — that I find it pretty shocking that it hasn’t manifested itself into something else and/or bigger.”

When asked if he would prefer Jack to return to deliver the story a fresh face, Sutherland replied:

“I’m no longer interested in one idea over another. Joel [Surnow] and Bob [Cochran, creators of 24] he found something really clever about this idea of narrating something in real time over a 24-hour period, and I just hate to think he only got one hit at the sledgehammer. I was grateful that I had the opportunity. If I had to do anything else with it, I would definitely skip it. But if it’s just going to turn into something else, I’d be his supporter there too, because I think the story is a good idea. What was it, 20 years after the initial Star Trek that they finally started turning into something else? I certainly see it for something like this 24, because I think it’s a franchise-worthy idea. So yeah, time will tell.”

I’d love to see Sutherland in the role again, but I agree there are a lot of stories and characters that could be successful in this format. You would like to see 24 back to television?
