‘Shazam!  Fury Of The Gods: Rachel Zegler Complains About “Senselessly Malicious” Criticism

Shazam! wrath of the gods Star Rachel Zegler took to social media over the weekend to complain about what she described as “pointlessly mean” reactions to the film. The DC sequel got off to a mediocre start at the global box office, grossing $65.5 million worldwide and currently has a 52% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Zegler wrote on Twitter: “Some people are just… pointlessly mean. And it’s unnecessary. And I know, I know, “If you can’t take the heat…” and all that nonsense, and you’re right. But our movie is actually very good, it’s just cool to hate fun these days. Well. It’s all right.”

Although the film was not well received by critics, it currently holds an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Zegler breaks up with Steven Spielberg West side storyplays the Greek goddess Anthea in the film, which is directed by David F. Sandberg Shazam 2 starring Zachary Levi as the titular superhero. She encouraged audiences to “try it out”:

The New Line/DC/Warner Bros film wasn’t expected to live up to the debut of its 2019 predecessor, but it still came in shorter than expected. It’s not part of any connective tissue in the DC Universe and never has been, and that’s a problem DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran want to solve.

Internationally, there was a slight uptick for families over the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to fill a gap. In China, an increasingly cold-hearted approach to Hollywood audiences hasn’t helped wrath of the gods grossed only $4.4 million despite being released there every day. It’s part of a worrying trend in the world’s second-largest payments market, where (outside avatar) people are shying away from Hollywood titles lately. Interesting, Shazam 2 has an audience rating of 8.8 on Maoyan, while the first film to earn $30 million in 2019 finished with a 7.9. It had a higher Douban score than the original when it came into the frame, but is now rated by critics at an even 6.2.
