HELLBOY Creator Mike Mignola Talks HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN Movie and Jack Kesy’s Casting

After the latest disappointment Hell boy the movie was released, i wasn’t sure if we would ever see an attempt to make another one again. But it’s happening with Hellboy: The crooked man. The film will be yet another attempt to bring the franchise to life.

The script of the film was written by the creator Mike Mignola AND Golden Chris. The story is based on the comic of the same name, and in that story, Hellboy teams up with a rookie BPRD agent named Tom Ferrell, and they find themselves stranded in rural 1950s Appalachia. “There they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with an eerie connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.” The story “will expand the world of Hellboy through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”

Mignola recently opened up about the project in an interview with Variety and discussing the casting of Jack Kesy in the lead role, he said:

“I never met him [Kesy]. I’ve only seen pictures and I’ve seen it a bit in the movies. It certainly has the look. Everyone who has worked with him says he is fantastic. This thing was done really fast, so I think the fact that it’s great and helpful, that’s me being a little smart about it, but I just have to trust that everyone is right.

He continued to talk about the director Brian Taylor’S (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Player) dark horror vision of the film that says:

“His intention is to make a horror movie, so that’s going to be nice. It will be interesting. Yesterday I read the new draft of the script, and yes, it’s definitely R. It’s the first Hellboy script I’ve read, and I said, “Oh, it’s a horror movie,” which is what I wanted. Taylor doesn’t have a reputation as a director of horror films. But, so far, we’ve had two horror film directors make Hellboy movies and we’ve never gotten a horror film.

“For years, we’ve said, if you’re going to make a Hellboy movie, make it small. And the perfect story to do that with is my favorite, ‘The Crooked Man’. I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written. It’s beautifully illustrated by Richard Corben and is a solid story that doesn’t involve a million different characters. Everyone agreed from the start, ‘Yeah, we want to do that.’ Budget-wise, that’s okay because it’s a lower-budget story. It’s not Hellboy’s origin. It’s not Hellboy saving the world. It’s not huge. It’s a subtle, dark, popular little horror story.

Mignola also talked about the latest iteration of the film and how he enjoyed it David Port’s performance, saying, “Harbor certainly didn’t get a good shake because I thought it was great. I thought there were a lot of things wrong with that movie, but Harbor was in no way one of the things wrong.

I can’t help but be curious about this upcoming Hellboy movie. I love the character and would love to see another great movie, and with this one set as a horror movie, it’s exciting! I just hope the creative team can come up with something awesome. I still want it Guillermo del Toro he could have completed his trilogy!
