Two Key ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Characters You Didn’t Notice: PlayStation | HBO (courtesy)
The end of the first season of ‘The Last of Us’ has arrived, and while it has left HBO Max subscribers with thousands of broken hearts, the worst in this world is yet to come. And some of the changes in the series have been the introduction of two characters that will be key to the future of the story that will be played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, and that you definitely didn’t notice.
Such is the case with Abby and Dina, two characters that will be fundamental ‘The Last of Us’ season 2, and which had already been introduced by the first installment of the series for HBO. Well, unlike the source material, these two women have not appeared anywhere in Naughty Dog’s work, but knowing the future of the storyline, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann decided to give a nod to their appearance.
The first is Dina, who appeared in the sixth chapter of ‘The Last of Us’, when Ellie was in the dining room with Joel, and a girl watches her from behind a counter. While there hasn’t been any interaction between the two, the mysterious young woman will be a crucial part of the events of season 2, although it is unknown if she will be the actress herself to play her.
The second is Abby, who appeared in the last episode of ‘The Last of Us’, although this one has a rather complicated moment. It’s the scene where Joel arrives at the hospital to save Ellie, and it’s not about Laura Bailey, who brought the character to life in the video game and who got a little nod as a nurse. But she is a shadowy figure who is seen fleeing the moment she sees Pedro Pascal with a shotgun.

Abby and Dina will be important to Ellie in ‘The Last of Us 2’
While the showrunners of the HBO series haven’t confirmed whether it’s actually these characters, everything indicates they’ll be an asset should you need to justify them in season 2’s storyline. In this case it will be easier to introduce them in some flashbacks, although they themselves have stated that the plot will be “drastically different” from the video game.
Abby may not have made a clear cut, but in the second video game, Dina has a statement confessing to Ellie that he has been watching and spying on her since her arrival in Jackson, eating. Which seems to be more of a coincidence in HBO’s adaptation. But until the theories about it are dispelled, these two characters will be key to the future of the series.
Recordings for the second season of ‘The Last of Us’ could begin later this year, according to Pedro Pascal. But several schedules need to align to make that possible, in which case the second batch of episodes will arrive in 2024, though it’s more likely until 2025, when we’ll see Joel and Ellie on screen again.
