We are less than two months away from the conclusion of the Marvel’s Guardians franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3by the director James Gunn. The story of the ragtag group of space heroes has changed so much since they reunited in the first movie nine years ago, as we’ve seen their adventure intertwine in the MCU.
Actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the films, had one of the most life-changing experiences in the entire Infinity saga, as the evil Thanos, who was miraculously defeated, was her father and the source of her greatest pain. He is now a full member of the Guardians entering the third film and during an appearance at SXSW, while promoting his next film Late bloomsspoke to Deadline about the Nebula storyline:
“Now we see Nebula post the death of the source of her trauma, Thanos. He’s been eliminated from the story and now we see her character become kind of the person he would have been if that hadn’t happened to her.
Nebula’s edgy, combative idea of bliss is now “her new family with new Guardians and the entrance of love for the first time, rather than the defense mechanism that always kicks in. Allowing her to be loved and to love”.
In director James Gunn’s third film, Chris PrattPeter Quill is still reeling from the loss of Zoe Saldanait’s Gamora. She must rally her team around him to defend the universe and protect one of their own. A mission that, if not successfully completed, could lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Gunn has previously said that this story will partially focus on Rocket Raccoon’s origin and show a redemption arc for the character. Gunn has promised a heartbreaking movie, and that’s evident from the first full trailer we’ve been shown.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will debut in theaters on May 5.
