The 1997 movie Batman and robin as a director Joel Schumacher it was a mess. The film was unmemorable, not any good anyway, and despite its star-studded ensemble, it fell flat to audiences and critics alike.

The film starred the Oscar winner George Clooney in his lead role, which turned out to be his only outing as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was joined by Chris O’Donnell as Robin; Umma Thurman as Poison Ivy; Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl; Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze; as well as Elle Macpherson AND Vivica A. Fox.
But while it seemed like Schwarzenegger’s crazed villain Dr. Victor Fries was in the film alongside his heroes, he actually filmed all of his scenes himself.
/Film reports that in the documentary “Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight,” which was filmed for the four-film “Motion Picture Anthology” set, Chris O’Donnell recalled the filming:
“[I]I’m in a lot of scenes with Mr. Freeze, I’ve never worked a single day with Arnold. Not a single day. I was on set a lot with him. I’d go out and talk to him, do a lot of publicity with him, but literally, they had a double for him that was so cool, and that suit was so complicated and complicated to wear, that unless Arnold was speaking in a scene, he wasn’t wearing that costume.”
During a 2020 appearance on The Howard Stern ShowClooney expressed amusement at the whole situation, saying:
“[T]They paid Arnold $25 million to be a part of it. They paid me, like, one. And we’ve never even worked together, we’ve never even seen each other. It was…a big monster machine, and I jumped in and did what they said.”
Too bad they couldn’t make a better film with such a cast. We’re lucky enough to have the caliber of superhero movies that we have today.
