Last year it was announced that Amazon Studios was developing a Blade Runner titled series Blade Runner 2099. Not much is known about the show other than that it is set in the Blade Runner universe. But now it has been reported that Jodie Comer (Eve killing, Free boy) is in talks to star in the series.

That news comes from entertainment columnist Jeff Sneider on a recent episode of The Hot Mic. It is explained that Comer wanted to work on another project with Ridley Scott after working with him on The last duel, and while she was ready for other projects with him, they fell through. But it looks like they will try to make things work Blade Runner 2099.
Scott is producing the project and will also reportedly direct some episodes of the show. Judging by the title of the series, the story will be set 50 years after the sequel, which itself took place 30 years after the original.
Vernon Sanderhead of global television, Amazon Studios said earlier in a statement: “The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scottis regarded as one of the greatest and most influential science fiction films of all time and we are thrilled to present it Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers. We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise and I am confident that by partnering with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions and the talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 it will uphold the intellect, themes and wit of its cinematic predecessors.
Co-CEO and co-founders of Alcon Entertainment Andrew Kosovo AND Broderick Johnson said: “We are delighted to continue our working relationship with our friends at Amazon. And we’re beyond excited to continue to extend the Blade Runner canon into a new realm with the provocative storyline that Silka created. Audiences discovered Ridley Scott’s brilliant vision for the first time Blade Runner 40 years ago, and since then, it has become one of the most influential sci-fi films of all time. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve, Blade Runner 2049, then went on to become one of the best-reviewed sequels of all time. So, we recognize that we have a very high bar to meet with this next installment. Together with Silka and our partners at Amazon and Scott Free Productions, we hope we can live up to this standard and delight audiences with the next generation of Blade Runner.”
Louise silk (Brilliant girls) wrote the screenplay and is an executive producer on the series. I’m thrilled we’re getting another one Blade Runner story, and I’m curious to see what that story will be!
