In a recent interview with Looper, Shannon talked about reprising the villain role, saying:

“I was a little confused. I said, ‘If memory serves, I think I’m dead Man of Steel. Are they sure they’ve got the right man?’ But then they explained to me the whole phenomenon of the multiverse, that… I was a little behind the times on that.”

The actor admitted that he’s not “a huge consumer” of the comic book genre and added:

“Not that I have anything against them. If I’m going to watch a movie, odds are it won’t be one of them, but I sure enjoy making them. I enjoyed making Man of Steel, and I enjoy working with [director] Zack [Snyder], and I felt like it was actually, in a sense, quite an important film. It was nice to revisit the character. Haven’t been there for a terribly long time. I was in and out in a couple of weeks so it was a nice way to spend some of my summer in England. [The Flash director Andy Muschietti’s] a lovely guy and a great artist, visually, and I really enjoyed it.”

Shannon is joined in the film by co-stars Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Ron Livingstone, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Trau, Ben AffleckAND Michael Keaton. The flash speed in theaters June 16.
