One of my favourites Sam Raimi-directed movies is the horror film of 2009 Drag me to hell. That movie was pretty awesome to watch and it’s just pure Raimi horror greatness. I always wondered if it would ever get a sequel, but it really doesn’t need to, as it’s a great standalone story.

During a recent Reddit AMA with producers Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Sam Raimi, the creative team on the upcoming film 65, Raimi was asked if there was any possibility of seeing a sequel, and he said a story is actually in progress Worked on!
“The Ghost House Pictures Team: Romel Adam and Jose Canas are trying to come up with a story that works and I’m eager to hear if they do!”
Now, that doesn’t mean we’ll ever see a sequel, but it’s nice to know that a story is in development. I’ve always thought the film fits perfectly into the Evil Dead universe and that it would be nice to see some sort of crossover.
The film centers on Christine Brown (Alison Lohmann), who has a wonderful boyfriend (Justin Long) and a big career in a Los Angeles bank. But his heavenly life turns hellish when, in an attempt to impress his boss, he refuses an elderly lady’s request for a home loan extension. In retaliation, the hag places a curse on Christine, threatening her soul with eternal damnation. Christine seeks the help of a psychic to break the curse, but the price of saving her soul may be more than she can pay.
After a crazy and horrific series of events, Christine is literally dragged to hell, and I always thought a fun sequel would see her run into Ash from the Evil Dead franchise down there and have to fight their way out together.
When Raimi previously spoke about a possible sequel a few years ago, he said, “Oh, well, if someone had a good story. I don’t have a story, because in my mind the character was killed, and worse. So I didn’t know how to proceed with the sequel.”
Raimi also spoke earlier about going from big budget Spider-Man movies to making a low budget movie again with Drag Me To Hell saying, “Without all the tools I had the luxury of having in those movies. that I would have to do the adjustment, so it wasn’t a surprise, but when I finally got on set and had to really adjust, it was a little difficult [laughs]. I’ve spent the last decade making Spider-Man and you rely on a lot of people to make things for you and a lot of help, but it’s refreshing and wonderful to remember that, as with most filmmakers, the best way to do it is yourself , with a close-knit team doing the main work.”
