‘Deadpool 3’: Hugh Jackman consumes more than 8,000 calories a day to prepare for Wolverine

On November 8, 2024, “Deadpool 3”, the first film of Ryan Reynolds’ character that is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hits theaters. While plot details are still a mystery, We know Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as the iconic Wolverine as the project’s co-star.

‘Deadpool 3’: Hugh Jackman consumes more than 8,000 calories a day to prepare for Wolverine

One of the aspects related to the interpretation of Wolverine, as we have seen in the rest of the episodes in which the Canadian mutant appears, is having an exceptional physical shape. This is not achieved only by working out in the gym, a strict diet must be followed to maximize the physical potential that the body can achieve. Jackman, who revealed earlier this year that he’ll be spending the months leading up to filming training and being with his family, said shared on his social networks the large amount of food, among which we find salmon, perch, two chicken burgers and two sirloin, and the calories he eats in a day:

“By volume. One more day. Thank you Chef Mario for helping me stay healthy and well fed as I become Wolverine. Again”says the actor’s tweet. The volume phase is one of the training phases that is aimed at gaining muscle mass, but for that you need to eat more food and calories than usual and thus build more body mass to convert into muscle. Through different labels, the photo indicates the number of calories in each of the six dishes that the actor eats in a day. The sum total gives nearly 8,500 calories, about four times more than an adult man with normal energy expenditure, who according to the World Health Organization should consume between 2,000 and 2,500 calories a day.

Jackman’s calories per day exceed Jonathan Majors’ 6,100 daily calories in his preparation for ‘Magazine Dreams’, film in which he plays a bodybuilder. As we see below, the diet worked well, so if Wolverine’s body is more muscular than Majors’ character in “Magazine Dreams” Deadpool he better not get too upset.

no steroids

Due to the short time between takes to achieve the muscular bodies we see in the movies, it’s no secret that more than one actor resorts to steroids to speed up the process. However, when Variety asked him in January, Hugh Jackman had already assured that he does not consume them, nor has he consumed them, to physically prepare for his Marvel character: “No, I love my job and I love Wolverine. I have to be careful what I say here, but I’ve been told what the side effects are and I don’t love them. So no, I did it the old fashioned way and ate a lot of chicken, I’m telling you. I feel sorry for vegans and vegetarians and for all the chickens in the world. Karma will literally not be good to me. If the deity has anything to do with chickens, I’m in trouble.”

‘Deadpool 3’, directed by Shawn Levy (‘Stranger Things’, ‘Free Guy’) and with a screenplay by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Ryan Reynolds, debuts in theaters November 8, 2024.
