Only God forgives
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, one of the best 90 minute thrillers is “Only God forgives”. The story stars Ryan Gosling and follows Julian Thompson, a fugitive from justice, who travels to a Thai boxing club to find his brother’s killers, on orders from his mother, who wants revenge at all costs. Available on HBO Max.
Enemy
Based on the novel ‘The Duplicate Man’ by José Saramago, we have ‘Enemy’, a 90 minute thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal, together with Sara Gadón and Alexis Uiga. The story is directed by Denis Villeneuve, and follows a university professor who rents a film one day, where he discovers that the protagonist is identical to him and becomes obsessed with his double.

The Witch
Leaning more towards horror, we have “The Witch”, a film directed by Robert Eggers and starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Katie Dickie and others. The story follows a New England family who have been banished from the colony, to go and live in the woods, where an ancient witch who brings only bad luck is said to dwell. Available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

With a runtime of just 121 minutes, we have one of the toughest movies on the list. This is ‘Elephant’, a film directed by Gus Van Sant, inspired by the terrible real events that happened in the Columbine massacre. The story follows a boy who experiences the shooting of two young men at an entire school in Portland, Oregon. Available on HBO Max.
you will never be safe
And finally a film starring Joaquin Phoenix, which lasts exactly 1 hour and 29 minutes, ‘You’ll never be safe’. The story is directed by Lynne Ramsey and follows a former soldier who is now dedicated to rescuing exploited youth and who is tasked with freeing a politician’s daughter who has been kidnapped.
