Hugh Jackman permanently damaged his vocal cords because of Wolverine

Hugh Jackman owes a lot to Logan. The Marvel Mutant was, after all, his rise to fame. The Australian actor played Wolverine in nine films of the “X-Men” saga, three of which were entirely dedicated to his character. Now preparing to retrieve it once again in “Deadpool 3”.

But not all have been joys. Jackman went through the BBC’s ‘Front Row’ where he revealed the price of playing Wolverine: permanently damaging his vocal chords with so much growling. Here’s how he explains it: “I hurt my voice with Wolverine. My falsetto isn’t as loud as it used to be and I’ve attributed it directly to the growling and screaming. My voice teacher from drama school would be terrified of some of the things I’ve done. We learned a technique on how to yell and yell without ruining our voice. However, playing Wolverine I’ve yelled and yelled and done things that I think have damaged my voice. I’m working on it. I’m working with a singing teacher and I’m trying not to hurt myself. I put a lot of effort into both physical movements and vocal preparation for each role”.

All for his friend

As we said, that preparation will be vital now that it’s his turn to growl again, probably more than ever, when he finally meets Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. ‘Deadpool 3’ will be directed by Shawn Levy and will finally allow Hollywood’s best friends to see their faces with their two most iconic characters. They will be joined by Emma Corrin, one of the first names announced for the cast. The theatrical release is scheduled for November 8, 2024..

Before that, we will see Hugh Jackman again on the big screen accompanied by Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby and Anthony Hopkins in Florian Zeller’s ‘The Son’. It opens in Spain on March 3.
