‘Shazam!  Fury Of The Gods is eyeing a  million box office opening, but it’s early

The sequel from Warner Bros./New Line/DC Shazam! wrath of the gods hit early tracking on Thursday, surprising many with a low forecast of $35 million, down from the $53.5 million opening of the first episode in 2019.

Realize it’s just getting started and Warner Bros hasn’t fully launched its marketing campaign yet. The strange thing is that tracking has followed some great openings, incl Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, the first Shazam!And Black Adam – all debut higher than Shazam 2s projection. The first trailer for Shazam! wrath of the gods was first revealed at last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Warners encouraged Shazam 2 of Christmas, away from Avatar: the way of water So it can pretty much grab all premium and Imax screens for the March 17 release date.

The sequel, starring Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Rachel Zegler and Djimon Hounsou among others, is now over-indexed by followers. David F. Sandberg returns as director from a script by Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden.

The first Shazam! $140.4 million domestic earned, $366 million worldwide and $74 million earned after all ancillary expenses.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Warner Bros. is secretly shooting the anticipated DC movie The Lightning at the CinemaCon at the end of April. DC co-chairman James Gunn called this film a reimagining of the DC Universe and one of the greatest comic book films of all time.
