With only two episodes released, HBO had to confirm that there would be a second season of ‘The Last of Us’ due to the huge success the acclaimed video game adaptation was having. Now, actor Jeffrey Pierce believes the series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will soon receive a third season, according to program stats.
In an interview with The Direct’s Klein Felt, Jeffrey Pierce revealed this HBO is planning a third season of ‘The Last of Us’, all with the aim of adapting as closely as possible the events of the second video game, which is much larger than the first. The actor who played Perry in the HBO series and Tommy Miller in the video game believes this is something that needs to happen.
“Yeah, I can’t wait to see what they do with us. I think they will extend it beyond a second seasonBecause there’s a lot of story to tell in Game 2,” said Jeffrey Pierce. The actor’s statements seem to indicate the path that many feel is necessary for the series, since the story of Joel and Ellie in “The Last of Us: Part II” has several chapters or divides the plot into two.
Because the duration of the second part of the video game is what Pierce believes HBO will have to do ‘The last of us 3’ to satisfactorily close all events of the game and continue with the philosophy of not rushing everything. On the other hand, Pierce clarified in detail what he expects more from the third season of the series.

Spoilers for ‘The Last of Us’ and HBO’s second season
Some seeds have already been sown along the way, like Dina’s appearance, or the town of Jackson, but Jeffrey Pierce doesn’t stop, and talks spoilers about what he hopes to see in the second, or eventual third, season. ‘The Last of Us’ on HBO: “I mean, I love the opening. The entire ‘Jesus Christ, Joel. What have you done?’ I’m sure it will be on the show. I can not wait to see it”.
“I can’t wait for Tommy to come see Ellie after Joel dies. That scene… playing her with Ashley was magical. Yeah, and then the farm scene, all that I love, I really love what I can do as Tommy. And these are like meaty moments when you finally get to the farm with Dina and Ashley, and he talks about chasing Abby.”
Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have talked about a third season before, and they just believe they don’t want to extend the story of “The Last of Us,” but understand that the second part of the video game is much more extensive and complex. So only time will tell if it’s necessary to extend the storyline further than anticipated.
