IDW Publishing is launching a new graphic novel slate this year geared towards young adult and mid-level readers. The title that will kick things off will be Codex Black (Book One): A fire in the clouds out on April 4th. This story takes place in 15th century Mesoamerica and follows two adventurers in search of their father. Code Black is written by Camilo Moncada Lozanzo with the colors of Angelo de Santiago and is based on the webcomic of the same name. It is said to be filled with humor, adventure, heart, a pronunciation guide, and meticulous research into Mesoamerican culture and mythology.

Donají is an intrepid Zapotec girl who, despite being only fifteen, is considered a heroine by her village. In Codex Black, Donají sets out on an adventure—accompanied by the god who lives inside her poncho—to find her missing father. Along the way, she meets a 17-year-old winged Mexica warrior named Itzcacalotl, and over time their temporary partnership develops into an incredible friendship. The search brings the young couple closer to danger and deeper into mystery than either could have anticipated. What exactly was Donají’s father involved in? And how did a simple search for a missing relative lead Donají and Itzcacalotl to battle a terrifying bat monster to defend an entire village?
Sounds like a fun read with some fun art. You are excited to read Code Black April 4th?
