The Latin Recording Academy and the government of Andalusia have reached an agreement under which the 2023 Latin Grammys are expected to be moved to Spain for the first time in their 23-year history.
During a press conference on Wednesday February 22, the “historic and unprecedented agreement” was announced that would make the region of Andalusia “the host of several events over the next 3 years”. Seville was set to be the premier city to host the 24th annual Latin Grammys.
“We are considering Seville to host the 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in November, but are still working on logistics with our partner TelevisaUnivision. We will soon share more details about the date and location of the next Latin Grammys,” Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, said in a statement.
The production of the program would be a collaboration between TelevisaUnivision and the Spanish broadcaster RTVE (Radio y Televisión Española).
It would be the first time since its inception in 2000 that the Latin Grammys would travel outside the United States. Las Vegas has hosted the gala 14 times, followed by Los Angeles with 5, Miami with 2, and Houston and New York. York hosts the awards ceremony once.
The last award was in November 2022, when Spanish singer Rosalía received the Album of the Year award. During the same show, Jorge Drexler and C. Tangana took home the other two main awards: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Tocarte”.
