Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson recalls being “selectively sidelined” by the studio and says changes were made to the script after he came on board

Ernie Hudson remembers his time ghostbusters and how hard it was for him. The actor played Winston in the film directed by Ivan Reitman.

At a performance on Howard Stern’s Graduation ShowHudson said Reitman was “a really, really brilliant man and I have so much love and appreciation for him.” However, Hudson didn’t have the same kind words for the studio behind the hit film.

“I was the guy that was brought in and kind of found my place in the middle of it — and they were all welcoming and inclusive,” Hudson said of the cast on the SiriusXM show. “The studio was not, and the studio did not stay. It made it very, very difficult because I was part of it, but then I was very selectively sidelined.

Hudson continued, “When the posters came out, I wasn’t on the poster. It took a long time. I was at the 30th anniversary movie release and there are three guys on all the posters. Now I know the fans don’t see it that way not and I’m so thankful for the fans because the fans basically identified with Winston, especially young people, I don’t want to say minority kids, but a lot of kids.

The actor calls ghostbusters “The hardest movie” he’s ever seen, “from a psychological point of view.”

“The original script, Winston, was at the very beginning of the film. When we were ready to shoot the film, Winston walked in halfway through the film,” he recalls. “All those things… It definitely felt intentional. And I still try not to take it personally. If you’re an African American in this country and something bad happens to you, you can always blame it because I’m black. You don’t want to go there. It’s the last thing I want to do…I can’t say anything bad about anyone, but it was hard. It took me 10 years to get over it and enjoy the film and just embrace the film. ghostbusters was really hard to come to terms with.
