The Sundance Institute announced today that the 2023 Sundance Film Festival will take place January 19-29 as a hybrid festival in Park City, Utah and beyond.
Next year’s festival schedule promises to be on a larger scale than has been presented digitally in the past two years. Passport and package information, both online and in person, will be shared closer to the festival, along with detailed instructions on health, safety and vaccinations.
The developers, led by programming director Kim Yutan, are now accepting offers through FilmFreeway. The deadline for feature films is August 12 this year, the official deadline is September 5, and the late deadline is September 26. Short films can be submitted from August 1 to September 5, New Frontier is open until August. 5 and 9 September. Episodic content must be submitted between August 8 and September 12.
“We look forward to returning to our home in Park City and presenting exciting new work from around the world directly and personally,” said festival director Tabitha Jackson. “We also have a biannual digital showcase and engagement with our generation of partners, which brings back the excitement and urgency of live events while maintaining a strong online offering.
The last two editions of the Sundance Film Festival have seen audiences gather online to experience the premiere of a new indie story on the festival’s digital platform. Including the first prize winners who debuted there last year. CODA, Summer of the Soul (… or when the revolution can’t be televised), Pastry, To escape Y PassedAmong others.
