With every clip and trailer I see for the next adventure film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, I’m more excited to finally watch it. I got to attend the immersive D&D Tavern Experience for the movie at San Diego Comic-Con last year and that, along with the movie panel, really got me excited about the story it will tell.

An interesting aspect of the film is all the practical effects used to bring the film to life on a large scale. It will be great to watch as a viewer, but I guess it got a little intense for a movie star.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via /Film), Hugh Grantwho plays Forge Fitzwilliam The Rogue, spoke about the nature of filming the wild adventure film, saying:

“Just when you thought you were acting pretty powerful or funny, you realized there was a fucking dragon flying past you in the background, stealing your thunder. There was a lot of incredibly intricate, I don’t know how is called…”

After the interviewer suggested he was looking for the word “animatronics,” Grant continued:

“Animatronics! Terrifying. A fish that eats children! And suddenly the whole set floor would become quicksand! I wish I had my children with me. They would have loved it.”

Any kid at heart would have loved that set! The cast of the film also includes Chris Pino, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe ColemanAND daisy head. The film was directed by Jonathan Goldstein AND John Francis Daley, who also co-wrote the script, and they seem to have really captured the essence of D&D, and I think both fans and newcomers to the fandom are going to love it. They’ve taken such a fun and humorous approach, and the cast seem to knock it out of the park.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival on March 10, 2023, before opening in theaters three weeks later on March 31.
