THE BATMAN spin-off series on Gotham City PD is reportedly still in development

After Matt Reeves-direct film The Batman has been released, two spin-off shows have been announced. One focuses on The Penguin and the other would be set within the Gotham City Police Department. It was later reported that the Gotham City PD series had evolved into a show set in Arkham Asylum.

Well, Variety mentioned in a recent article that there are three spin-off shows in development and one of them is set within the Gotham PD, they say one “remains in development.” No other details are offered, but this news comes as a surprise.

When the series was initially announced, it was explained that the show “will build on the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series will extend the world established in the film and further explore Gotham’s myriad of complex characters.

When that all changed, Reeves shared the news, saying, “The GCPD thing, that story has evolved. We’re actually now moving more into the realm of exactly what would happen in the world of Arkham in regards to our movie release, and some of the characters, back into their origins again that you would — almost leaning into the idea of ​​– it’s like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.

“The idea, again, of how Gotham is a character in the movie, I really want Arkham to exist as a character, so that you go into this environment and meet these characters in a way that feels really fresh. And so in While we were working on Gotham, that story started to evolve and he started to think, ‘Wait, we should really lean into this.’ And that’s kind of where it went.”

But now there seems to be a chance to see both, which is totally fine with me! I totally agree with Reeves’ plans for his Batman universe and while we still have a long way to go, I can’t wait to see how all of these projects play out!
