‘Melanie: Zombie Apocalypse’, the alternative story to ‘The Last of Us’ that you can see on Netflix

The story of “The Last of Us” didn’t go so far as to come up with something new, even in video games, but it presented a story that was fresh and powerful in all the aspects it needed. There are many stories of zombies and all kinds, and ‘The Last of Us’ wasn’t the first, let alone be the only one. But it confirmed a trend in the genre, more human stories in which, coincidentally, a father and his daughter (in this case adopted) were trying to survive. They also explored Telltale Games’ ‘The Walking Dead’ or ‘The Road’.

In the same tone, it is ‘Melanie: Zombie Apocalypse’, an alternate history a ‘The Last of Us’, which you can watch on Netflix, in case you can’t see the adaptation. She is about a girl who, like Ellie, lives in a world infected by a plague that turns humans into savages. Clearly this company is on the verge of extinction, but it finds a little hope in its protagonist.

The story of ‘Melanie: the girl with all the gifts’ AND ‘The Last of Us’ they share many similarities, but one of the most interesting is that both protagonists are infected. But unlike Ellie, Melanie shows symptoms of her infection, however, she is the first generation of children born to infected women, so part of her consciousness is still intact.

The story of ‘Melanie: Zombie Apocalypse’

Although some of the charm of this film is lost with its Spanish translation, ‘The Girl with All Gifts’ puts an interesting twist on a well known story within a much explored genre. Well, the little girl only becomes a zombie when she’s hungry, the rest of the time she keeps her sanity of her as a human.

Melanie, having been born after a moment of crisis, does not know the world before the catastrophe, and although many at the base where it is studied fear it, she is still very worried about the world around her, and for this she wants contact with those who takes care of her. However, being a dangerous human being, she must always wear a muzzle so as not to infect anyone else in her moments of hunger for her.

Curiously, the cause of the apocalypse between the series and the film is the same, as what brought humans to the brink of extinction was the fungus known as Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis. So rather than just being a coincidence between the worlds of ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Melanie’, they feel more like an alternative to the events themselves.
