Star Wars: Andor it was a great series and easily one of the more adult ones Star Wars projects never done. It took the fans on a gripping and thrilling Star Wars adventure and took the franchise to a refreshing new level as it was an intelligent series that didn’t treat the fans like idiots.
It turns out that writer and creator Tony Gilroy actually attempted to drop the atomic bomb in the Lucasfilm series! Series director Benjamin Caronirecently spoke to CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast and shared that Disney prevented this from happening, but they actually filmed it!
In the season finale, titled “Rix Road,” Maarva Andor (Fiona Shaw) gave a slightly different speech than what was planned. The actor originally said “F*ck the Empire!” in his speech! This is a phrase that Star Wars fans would flip! It would have been a collective “Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh! Shit!”
Caron revealed, “Yeah, it was all Tony. From the very beginning, he was like, ‘We’ll do it. We’ll get through it. I mean, Disney said no. But there’s no how I’m… I’m not going to let that get away with it!’ And I was like, ‘Okay, okay, we’ll do it.’ And then, um, yeah.”
He addressed Shaw’s line delivery saying, “Hell yeah! I mean, Fiona Shaw? That was the first thing out of her mouth when we were shooting it! And then the producer was like, ‘Okay, you gotta get a safety.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, come on.’ They were like, ‘You need a security.’ So, yeah. In my head, when I see it, I hear ‘F*ck the Empire’, not ‘Fight the Empire’.”
I love this! I love that they actually filmed it! I hate that Disney shut it down, though. I guess they’re not willing to let Star Wars go there.
