MGM+ new original fantasy comedy adventure The portable door debuts exclusively on MGM+ and hits the US market exclusively in April. The comedy stars multi-Golden Globe nominee Sam Neill (Peter Rabbit, Jurassic Park) and Patrick Gibson (The OA, Tolkien), along with two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (Django unleashed, no time to die) and Sophie Wilde (Eden, you don’t know me). Award-winning Jeffrey Walker (Ali’s marriage, lambs of God) directed the film, which was directed by Leon Ford (Seize the invisible) from Tom Holt’s popular seven-book fantasy series.
The film follows Paul Carpenter (Gibson) and Sophie Pettingel (Wilde), humble interns at the mysterious London firm JW Wells & Co. start working and become increasingly aware that their employers are anything but conventional. Charismatic villains Humphrey Wells (Waltz), the company’s CEO, and middle manager Dennis Tanner (Neill) shake up the world of magic by mixing ancient magical practices with modern business strategies, and Paul and Sophie discover the true agenda of the giant corporation .
The cast also includes Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings, Sabrina’s chilling adventures), Chris Bang (Crazy rich Asians, Charlie’s Angels), Jessica de Gouw (Gretel & Hansel, Pennyworth) and Rachel House (Soul, Thor: Ragnarok).
The Portable Door, a Jim Henson Company, Story Bridge Films and Sky Production, is directed by Todd Fellman of Story Bridge Films (Daybreakers, Ace 3D) and Blanca Lista (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson and Chris Lytton are executive producers, as well as Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton, Brian Beckmann, Ying Ye and Ryan Hamilton, along with Sky’s Julia Stuart and Laura Grange, and Cailah Scobie and Shana Levine with Stan. Arclight Films manages the international rights to the film. UTA’s Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance jointly represent the film’s North American rights.
