I was a huge on my block fan. I think you four have done an amazing job starting this new chapter and giving us characters to really love on my block He did. Was Demi always the role you auditioned for or did you leave for other roles on the show?
Clare Riley Wilson: First of all, thank you. it’s great that you are one on my block fanatic and liked what we did with the whole thing. It means a lot. audition for freeridge in May 2021, a little late. It was actually a possible spin-off. They hadn’t written it yet and the characters had fictional aspects. The characters weren’t fully developed yet. There were only small descriptions. Demi was the only character I auditioned for, but she was a different version of Demi. Demi really grew on me over the next few years before we even sat down and filmed.

AS on my block, freeridge he wasn’t afraid to punch himself in the stomach at the last second. How did you react to Mariluna’s death? Is she really dead? We’ve never seen her body, so you know what that means.
Clare Riley Wilson: OMG yes. on my block he certainly dominated the cliffhanger. I’m so glad we got a nice juicy ending for the whole series. I like to think that Mariluna is not dead. I do not know. It’s like we’re all in the same boat as to what actually happened, or just cross our fingers, but I think they did a really fun job of really ending with a bang. No pun intended.

What was it like working with Peggy Blow?
Clare Riley Wilson: It was huge. It’s just an icon, that’s for sure. She was very kind to us. She definitely had a mentor mentality and guided us through the whole experience. She is so talented. i loved her inside on my block, and plays a completely different character on this show. But she still does them so perfectly. I thought he was really handsome. She is incredibly talented.

We need to talk about Demi and Cam. There was preparation for them to be together, but they broke up at the end of the season. I don’t know if they have already come to terms with their feelings for each other. What do you think of their relationship and what is their position at the end of the season?
Clare Riley Wilson: I think Demi and Cam have a very, very interesting and beautiful relationship. You can tell that they have known each other for a long time and have basically been lifelong friends. I think all that whirlwind romance was really fun and exciting for them. They just have such a deeply connected relationship. They make decisions on a whim. They got together on a whim. They parted with the wind, but deep down I feel like Demi and Cam are soul mates and will find their way back to each other.

After all, Demi thinks Cam is her “forever piece.” It’s always a little weird when you’ve been friends with someone your whole life and know them on such an intimate level, but then you get into that territory where it’s romantic now. It’s kind of scary because you don’t know how it’s going to happen. It will be interesting to see how they play with this in the future.
Clare Riley Wilson: I totally agree. Even his adolescence. Teens make decisions on a whim and don’t know what they want. When I think about Demi and Cam in the long run, it’s probably going to be like one big tug of war again.

The house party episode was my favorite episode of the season. Cam and Demi finally had a heart-to-heart about what Demi said hurt Cam when she was 12. It was a heartbreaking scene to see them walk through that door and finally be on the same page after Demi apologized. What was it like shooting that pivotal scene?
Clare Riley Wilson: First off, my favorite episode is the house party. I think it’s very funny and well done. I love doing these scenes with tense [Trainor]. I think it’s a very important moment in history. It’s like the only thing that separates them. Until then, we see Demi really not taking responsibility and believing she was wrong. At this point, she actually confronts him and apologizes to him. I think character-wise, Demi is really emotionally intelligent and she feels like she has it all figured out. The moment she doesn’t know where she is facing, no, you’re wrong. You didn’t say the right thing. She really rocked her world. But when she realizes how much she’s hurt Cam, she can grow up to take responsibility and repair that friendship and turn it into a relationship. I think it’s really cool and the shooting was a lot of fun. It was episode 5, so we were really in the heat of things and very comfortable with each other. Tenzing and I had those claws in our hands.

I was going to ask about those clawed hands.
Clare Riley Wilson: In fact, we use them all day long. We couldn’t do anything. We had people feed us. she had a runny nose and had keyla [Monterroso Mejia] come and get it for me. It was fun. Tenzing and I shook hands thoroughly. We were delirious.

And then there’s the Andre situation. Do you think Andre can actually forgive them and be friends with them even if they get back together?
Clare Riley Wilson: Hundred percent. I think, first of all, Zaire [Adams] he is so talented and funny. He actually cut these really intense podcast scenes, which were some of the funniest and hardest scenes to film because there are really pivotal moments that happen on the podcast. But I think he’s a good friend. Andre and Demi are similar because they really understand people’s emotions, and I think he can look past everything that’s been going on and know that we’re good people and he’s going to be friends with us for a long time.

The triangle of Gloria, Inés and Rusty could really put Demi and Cam in an awkward position. Where do you think Demi would be in the situation? Would it firmly Team Gloria? Or play devil’s advocate?
Clare Riley Wilson: Great question. It’s interesting because at the beginning of the season I would say obviously Demi is always Team Glory. Even though they fight a bit in episode 3, I think they are very, very good friends. Even if they have a lot of love. But I really like how towards the end of the season you can see Demi and Ines’ friendship blossom with the psychic and everything. I think they have a really nice friendship dynamic that was unexpected for me and Brianna [Salaz] just read on because we are very close in real life and think our characters will never like each other. But watching it through to the end, I really like the feel of our characters and I love that little friendship dynamic. I think it would be very difficult for Demi to choose. I think it’s kind of like she gets to see that side of everyone’s story, and she’s very compassionate towards everyone. So I feel like she would be kind of a go-between in trying to figure that out for them.

Equal to on my block, freeridge Play with supernatural elements. There’s all that Demi and Emilio bowl stuff at the end of the season. Demi is very taken by her spirituality. Do you think she really believes in karmic coincidence?
Clare Riley Wilson: I think this is your world. This is how she makes every decision in his life. He says, what would the moon say about it? For example, now check my horoscope to see if I should have french fries or french fries for lunch. I feel it’s her vibe. But the really sweet thing is who I’ve worked with Lauren [Iungerich] a lot, and Demi says all of these things and knows all of these things, but 70% is probably either making it up or trying to convince people that she knows what she’s doing. I think she’s a really nice element of her character where she’s really trying to convince everyone that she’s got it all figured out and researched everything about the spirit world. She was really captivating.

In the Thanksgiving scene, we really see Demi taking a leadership role with her sister and Cam. Earlier in the season, Demi was mad at Gloria for not letting her take the lead on something about her. I don’t know what the writers said about Demi’s family other than her sister, but I think it might reflect her family life a little bit.
Clare Riley Wilson: I’ve thought about it for a while. Demi in the original character description, her parents are missing. They are immigrants. This isn’t really addressed in the series but just the background I was given is that she had to fend for herself. I think she wants that kind of responsibility and she doesn’t get it from her group of friends. In many different ways throughout the series, you see her try to prove herself in terms of the curse, the box, and even Thanksgiving. This is the first time I realize what this is like, this is my chance to take the lead and really show my friends that I can handle it and that I am an important member of our friend group.

The season ends on a huge cliffhanger and there’s still a lot to explore with these characters. Is there anything you may not have touched on with Demi in Season 1 that you’d like to explore in Season 2?
Clare Riley Wilson: I would definitely say your home life. I’d like to see more about her parentage and even her relationship with her sister, and how it intertwines with her personality. I really enjoyed working with Bryana and seeing that friendship between Demi and Inés. There’s a lot more room to grow in future episodes, I hope.
