Get ready for a return to the Colosseum! Paramount Pictures has announced that the highly anticipated Ridley Scott-direct film Gladiator 2 hits theaters November 22, 2024!
Academy Award Nominated Rising Star Paul Mescal will star in the film as Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), and grandson of Commodus (Joaquin Fenicelisten), son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who killed his father and took the throne.
Commodus met his downfall in the gladiatorial arena against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before moving on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucio and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the boy.
Scott will direct the film from a script written by David Scarpa, and will go into production after he has made his film about Napoleon. When previously discussing making a Gladiator sequel, Scott said, “You can’t just do another Gladiator-type film. You have to follow through … there are enough components of the first one to pick up the ball and continue it.”
November 22, 2024 is the weekend before Thanksgiving, and no other big releases are planned for that date. Gladiator 2 will pave the way for an untitled Disney animated film to hit theaters Nov. 27. It will be fun to see this film and once again feel the hustle and bustle of the arena.
