Oscars 2023: Academy won’t cancel Andrea Riseborough’s nomination for ‘To Leslie’

This was stated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). will not take any action to attempt to cancel the nomination Andrea Riseborough at an Oscar for her performance in “To Leslie”, but that will continue to investigate campaign tactics.

Following the controversy and uproar following the nomination of Riseborough, star of the film ‘To Leslie’, the Academy has begun investigate the procedures of the nominated films’ campaigns. Michael Morris’s little film grossed just over $27,000 during its theatrical release in October, and for that reason it became one of the lowest-grossing film ever to earn an Oscar nomination. Given the low budget that the distributor had, an Oscar campaign could not be financed, so the director and the protagonist were primarily responsible, relying on the Contact numerous friends and guildmates to get promoted of his film.

Such promotion took place mainly on social networks, where film stars including Demi Moore, Jane Fonda, Naomi Watts or Kate Winslet echoed the film and Riseborough’s performance. Reason for the Academy

Despite much criticism, the Academy will continue to investigate the campaign. The CEO of the association, Bill Kramer, recently said in an interview: “The Academy has determined that the activity in question it doesn’t reach the levels at which the film’s nomination should be revoked. Then, we discovered the social media and awareness campaign tactics that have caused concern. These tactics are addressed directly with the responsible parties.”adding that: “The purpose of the Academy campaign rulebook is to ensure a fair and ethical procurement process: these are our core values. “To Leslie” will be released. in Spanish cinemas on March 3.
