James Gunn Addresses Henry Cavill Superman Situation, Says ‘We Didn’t Fire Henry’

Lots of news and clarifications are coming out of DC Studios this week, like James Gunn And Peter Safran have released their movie and TV slate for the studio. A big question on the minds of fans and the press alike is what exactly happened with the Henry Cavill situation.

Many fans had speculated that when the actor left his hugely popular series, The sorcerer, it was because he was returning to DC to play the Man of Steel once again. This would have made sense, as fans have wanted this for a long time, but it hasn’t, and people have been pointing fingers at Gunn and Safran, as they’re the new studio bosses, arriving to shake things up and reconfigure the ‘DC Universe. But Gunn made it clear that’s not true.

At this week’s press conference, Gunn was asked again about the Cavill situation, with Gunn exclaiming:

“We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast. He was in a cameo, and that was the end of his story about him. A lot of people made assumptions that weren’t true, but for me it’s about who I want to cast as Superman and who the filmmakers want.

Referring to his Superman Legacy film, Gunn continued:

“For me, for this story, it’s not Henry. I like Henry. He’s a good guy. I think he has been made fun of by many people, including the former regimes of this company. But this Superman isn’t Henry for a variety of reasons.

I think as annoying as the answer is, because we’d really like to see Cavill return, we have to put some faith in Gunn. I like the films he’s made in DC and Marvel, and we need to see his vision of him realized before we jump into any criticism of the casting choices. I can’t wait to see what he does and hope to see Cavill in other great projects in the future.
