Here’s how to fix GOLDENEYE 007 controls on Switch

At the end of last week, Golden eye 007 since the Nintendo 64 has made a comeback. On the Nintendo Switch, fans have been offered a rather simple port with the only addition of online multiplayer via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass. Meanwhile, Xbox fans have had access to a remastered version without the online features (hopefully we can change that with cross-play enabled). The problem with the Switch version is that the controls suck.

The N64 controller was a completely different beast than modern ones. It just had a joystick and a weird “M” design. Golden eye it was developed for this and the direct port used for Switch makes the controls very awkward. In modern games you move your character with the left stick and the camera with the right stick. In GoldenEye, you only had one stick, so you moved back and forth with it, and going left or right turned you instead of strafing. Strafing and looking up and down have been relegated to the C buttons. This creates a disconnect when using a modern controller and makes it feel clunky. Yes, there are several controller mappings in the game, but I haven’t found any that eased the embarrassment for me.

Thankfully, the folks at Nintendo Life have figured out how to make a modern controller work better for the Switch version of Golden eye. Basically, you have two paths. With a Joy-Con, you can simply change your control scheme to 1.2 – Solitaire and then swap hands so the left Joy-Con is in the right hand and vice versa. If you prefer a Pro controller or use Joy-Con in a grip, you’ll have to work a little harder. You will still switch to control profile 1.2 – Solitaire in the game, but then you will need to go to the controller settings on your console where you can remap the controller. Note that these settings are saved on your controller and will apply to all games unless you change them again. Of course, you can also hope to get one of the N64 Nintendo Switch controllers for a more authentic feel. Here is the video guide they made and let us know if you like the revival of the classic game.
