Based on a true story told by friends of co-writer/director Le Guay, a happily married Parisian couple (Renier and Bejo) sell a storage room in the basement of their apartment building to a seemingly ordinary man (Cluzet) for his to store records. It quickly becomes clear that the man has gone to live there permanently and that he also turns out to be a notorious Holocaust denier. The couple desperately tries to cancel the sale, to no avail, and then begins a lengthy eviction court process as the basement dweller becomes a scheming presence, undermining the couple’s marriage and ingratiating herself with her naïve teenage daughter.
