This is ‘Copenhagen Cowboy’, a delusional and surprising thriller that is like nothing you can find in the Netflix catalogue.
Since last January 5th ‘Copenhagen Cowboys’ is now available on Netflix, and is the most recent work of Nicolas Winding Refn, director of controversial works such as ‘Bronson’ with Tom Hardy, or ‘Only God Forgives’ and ‘Drive’, his masterpieces with Ryan Gosling. You may or may not like it, NWR is a director who always attracts the attention of those seeking an aesthetic and staging like no other.
It’s about ‘Copenhagen Cowboys’, a series of suspense in the purest style of black cinema of the 60s and 80s, which is his first Danish production since 2005. The story is completed by six episodes, starring Refn himself, together with Angela Bundalovi., Maria Erwolter and others.
During its premiere at several festivals, ‘Copenhagen Cowboys’ got good reviews, and some compared it to the director’s first series, ‘Too Old to Die Young’, which was not well received by the specialists. But this time he seems to have managed to hit the mark with his new story of neon colors and mystery.

An enigmatic and surprising story in ‘Copenhagen Cowboy’
Netflix’s “Copenhagen Cowboy” story follows Miu (Angela Bundalovic), a young heroine who has worked her whole life in service to other families, but now wants a new direction. And for this she decides to infiltrate the criminal underworld of the city, to take revenge on Rakel, and this will make her enter a supernatural journey full of mystery.
According to the official synopsis, ‘Copenhagen Cowboy’ is about “the past finally transforming and defining the future of” Miu and Rakel “when they discover they are not alone. There are many.” Refn’s new miniseries won acclaim at the Venice Film Festival, where a small fraction of the audience recognized that it would be one of the Danish director’s most original bets.
Many mention ‘Kill Bill’, the cinema of Park Chan-Wook or even a touch of ‘Twilight’ in Nicolas Winding Refn’s story. Therefore, if you have a few hours at your disposal and you are a fan of all the director’s previous films, you must not miss this series which will surely give a lot to discuss among the subscribers of the platform.
