During the last Morelia Film Festival (FICM), there was a horror film that caught all the eyes of critics and attendees. That was ‘Huesera’, director Michelle Garza Cercera’s debut, which received the Audience Award, and which many compared to Ari Aster’s ‘Hereditary’. Now, the film has finally received a theatrical release date in Mexico.
It has been confirmed that the next February 23 opens ‘Bonemaker’ in theatresthe story that has won critics’ awards, when compared to great classics of the genre such as Roman Polanski’s ‘Hereditary’ or ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, due to the fact that the theme of motherhood and horror is present in all these works, and that’s what this Mexican horror film is about.
The story of ‘Bonemaker’ is played by Sonia Couoh, Alfonso Dosal and Mayra Batalla, among others. And she tells the story of Valeria, a girl who has recently discovered she is pregnant, after having spent so much time desiring it. However, with that, she begins to be visited by a strange entity that could endanger not only her life, but the life of her baby as well.

What does the specialist critic say about ‘Huesera’?
The premiere of ‘Huesera’ has suffered several delays caused by the health crisis, which is why until now it can be seen in conventional theaters, having received a very good reception from specialized critics. The story of those who didn’t want to be mothers, or motherhood in horror, is very much from this film, so many have not hesitated to put it among the greats.
Some specialized media and critics, such as Variety, IGN or Forbes, have shared their opinion on ‘Huesera’, and in addition to highly recommending it to everyone, they underline that “it offers an interesting Mexican twist on classics such as ‘The Babadook’, ‘Rosemary’s Baby’”, or the aforementioned ‘Hereditary’.
Taking into account that these are heavyweights within the genre, ‘Huesera’ has all the material to compete with the giants and look them in the eye with a one hundred percent Mexican story, which any fan of the genre should not miss next Thursday. February 23 this year.
