John Carpenter he has said in the past that he would be interested in making a film adaptation of the popular sci-fi horror video game franchise Dead space. When Carpenter was previously asked if he would be interested in directing a video game film adaptation, he mentioned Dead space and said, “It would be a really great movie. I could do it.”

Well, according to Carpenter, there may be a movie in development, but it’s not with him. In a recent interview with Variety, Carpenter was asked about the project and said he’s not doing it:
“I’m a big fan of video games, so I’ve played every game. I was looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and I happened to tell them that I would like to make a film about Dead Space. He just walked around and everybody was like, “Oh, when are you gonna do that?” I will not do that.
He then touched on the existence of the project and said he thought “they” had another director attached to the project. He went on to say, “And they didn’t ask me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it.
So, at this point, no one has asked him to direct a Dead Space movie, but if someone actually reaches out to him, they might actually do it. It’s just a matter of a studio going to him and asking. As for whether he returns to direct any kind of film, Carpenter said that if the project was “honestly budgeted” and the producers in charge of the project allowed him time to enjoy the basketball season and the playoffs, it would be open.
Would you like to see Carpenter direct another film one day? Would you like to see him hire Dead space?
