‘The Last of Us’ showrunner explodes at criticism of Bella Ramsey

Although for the vast majority of viewers who were attentive to the premiere of ‘The Last of Us’ on HBO Max, the series was more than satisfied, on the other side there are those who discredit all attempts to adapt one of the most important stories of recent years. And part of that falls on Bella Ramsey, who has been roundly criticized for her role as Ellie, and who Craig Mazin has come to defend.

In an interview with Elle, the showrunner of ‘The Last of Us’ exploded against negative criticism of Bella Ramseywhich he thinks has a relationship like the one Joel and Ellie have in the story: “I feel for her [Ramsey] the way Joel feels about Ellie, I mean, when I read that people are saying things that I think are cruel, stupid, I want to find them and kill them myself.”

And that’s it Bella Ramsey has been the victim of negative comments about her resemblance to Ellie from the video game ‘The Last of Us’. And Mazin reacted by saying, “In this medium, there’s a new girl and they’re like, ‘well, we didn’t want the new girl. We’re not asking for a new girlfriend. I don’t like this new girl. You don’t look like the old girl.’ So what’s going to happen, if they look, they’re going, “well, the new girl’s fine.” She’s not as good as the old one, but the new one is fine.’ Then they’ll say, “I love this new girl.” Then eventually they’ll go so far as to say, “If anyone hurts this new kid, I’ll kill him.”

The problem is that both Bella Ramsey and other great actors like Tom Holland, Anna Diop and even John Boyega have been bullied on social networks, and criticized for different reasons. As for the HBO series, many were skeptical about casting Ellie, however many changed their minds upon seeing Ramsey’s performance in the story.

On the other hand, critics and experts have praised Bella Ramsey for participating in two of the great HBO series. She known for her work as Lyannna Mormont in ‘Game of Thrones’ and Ellie in ‘The Last of Us’. Some believe that she will be one of the great actresses, as at 19 she has already proven that she has the character and presence to be her in television blockbusters.

Meanwhile, ‘The Last of Us’ continues to garner rave reviews and during its premiere, many fans tried to log into HBO Max and the platform crashed for several minutes. Now, the numbers are reporting that its debut was the second biggest in the history of the platform in more than a decade, ranking only below “House of the Dragon”.

It’s still too early to judge Bella Ramsey’s work as Ellie on ‘The Last of Us’ without seeing the rest of the season. Then the following Sundays will fully reveal what the young woman’s story has in store, and whether she can continue as her for season two, where the character is already a young adult.
