In recent years, the idea of ”high horror” has emerged, i.e. stories in which fear is used as an extra ingredient in the plot, and whose aspirations are more artistic than those of box office revenue. That’s why there have been many horror films out there that have taken the genre to a more respected level, but have never been recognized at the Oscars.
Without a doubt, one of the horror movies that deserved to be in the oscars is ‘Midsommar’, a story directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh. It is precisely the performance of the lead actress that would not have asked for anything from the stars of her first year, while the script, the artistic direction or the set design deserved to be recognized. Available on Netflix.
The Witch

go out
Many could not understand how Jordan Peel’s “Get Out” was not recognized at the awards show. The story of Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams at least deserved to acknowledge the incredible acting work of its lead character, in one of the most haunting and challenging scenes for any other actor besides him. Available on Star+.
The killing of a sacred deer
Yorgos Lanthimos is a director who has already been awarded an Oscar for ‘The Favourite’, however, it left many wanting to see him win an award for ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’, a horror story steeped in magical realism in attended by Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan.
