With numerous sexual assault and abuse allegations, some dismissed and some yet to be resolved, Kevin Spacey gave his first public speech since the allegations began in 2017, which rocked his career. Its setting was the National Cinema Museum in Turin, Italy, where the actor he thanked the institution for having it “the balls” invite him despite the controversy. It was precisely Italian cinema that gave him the opportunity to be in front of the cameras again: director Franco Nero chose him in 2021 to play a small role in ‘The man who drew God’, a low-budget film. Now, in this museum, the actor said a few grateful words before conducting a full-fledged master class.

His special thanks went to a close person: his manager, who also proved to be a great friend. According to Variety, Spacey says so in his speech “When you have a best friend like Evan Lowestein, who is here tonight, then life can be very special. And any challenge is worth overcoming”. The actor highlighted his advice, his support and perspective on him, but most of all his friendship. “It’s almost impossible to tell you what he did”Keep it up. “Evan hasn’t just been by my side. He’s been in front of me when I need guidance and behind me when I need a push.”. Spacey concluded: “I’m really lucky to have you as a brother. The brother I never had”.
He also dedicated a few words of thanks to the other operators in the sector with whom he worked closely, even if without naming names. “I’ve had the honor of being part of creative processes with so many amazing people. I’ve had the opportunity to work with directors, artists and technicians. Who wouldn’t say that tonight is the perfect opportunity to say: Thank you!”Spacey said. “You are not honoring just me, but all of them”. Plus, she took advantage of the moment to go back to her acting beginnings. “The first performance I did was in a high school drama class. It was a little five minute scene that we had to create without words, but we could use music”tells. “I was 11. And I decided to do a western scene, so I could be a cowboy. Well, a bank robber. The bad guy, obviously”he told his audience.
“Many of us have a story about Kevin Spacey”
Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual abuse by Anthony Rapp in 2017, who alleged that the then ‘House of Cards’ star engaged in inappropriate behavior when they were 14 and 26 respectively, where he insinuated, lay on the bed and sitting astride him intending to have sex, though Rapp eventually broke free and walked away. After two weeks of trial, in October, the jury found him not guilty, arguing that there were some contradictions in Rapp’s version. However, this is not an isolated case: following this first testimony numerous similar legal complaints have surfaced against Spacey, ranging from groping to rape.
Among the allegations is the anonymous who officially reported alongside Rapp in 2020, who did not pursue the case to preserve his anonymity. There’s also actor Richard Dreyfuss’ son, Harry Dreyfuss, who claims Spacey groped him when he was barely of age; and Mexican actor Roberto Cavazos, who sued Spacey for molesting him and more than twenty other young actors when Spacey was artistic director of the Old Vic theater. “Looks like a lot of us have ‘a Kevin Spacey story'”says Cavazos. On the other hand, a ‘House of Cards’ production assistant also claimed that Spacey, who was also executive director of the series, had groped it. The actor has always denied the facts, although in 2017 he entered a rehabilitation clinic to treat his sex addiction. Although Rapp’s case was dismissed due to inconsistencies, that of the alleged rape of an 18-year-old boy in 2016 due to lack of evidence and another due to the death of the alleged victim, we will soon know the jury’s verdict on the many remaining cases, even if many proceedings did not go ahead because the alleged victims preferred to remain anonymous.
