Dungeons & Dragons it’s gone and messed up. In case you missed it, information regarding the changes to the Open Gaming License leaked last week. These changes suck and have rightfully pissed off a lot of tabletop RPG fans. This turned out to be a bit of a public relations nightmare D&D, but a great time for other companies. One such company is Modphius which has officially launched the 2d20 World Builders Community Content Program via DriveThru RPG. Now, this program was revealed last year, but it’s now officially open and content creators are open to creating their own content for the 2d20 system. You just need to use the 2d20 System reference document (affiliate link).
You will surely want to read all the guidelines, but I will try to break down some of the important aspects for you. First, you have to sell everything you create through this program via DriveThru RPG. If you want to sell it on Kickstarter or your local game store or somewhere else, you need to get a commercial license from Modiphius. Second, you get 50% of all sales. If you list an item for $5, you get $2.50. Thirdly, you cannot create content for licensed products such as The Adventures of Star Trek or To fall, but you can use many of the rules. Fourth, you own any IP you make, but Modiphius owns the products you make. If you create a brand new fantasy world and launch it in a book called Fantasy Card RPG Rulebook, you own the world and characters and you can use them in other projects like a comic or YouTube series, but Modiphius owns Fantasy Card RPG Rulebook. Fifth, no AI art is allowed!
One important thing to note is that you can create content for Modiphius Achtung! Cthulhu IP, just make sure you follow those specific guidelines. Modiphius has also released a free Art Pack (affiliate link) for Achtung! Cthulhu projects. You can also get official logos and templates (affiliate links) for your projects for free from Modiphius as well. Templates are for Word and InDesign.
