Shahid Introduces Landmarks of Period Market With Global Cast
Middle Eastern streamer Shahid has launched period market, A historical historical drama with a global cast from across EMEA, filmed in over 100 locations. The show, created by Kuwaiti writer Heba Mashari Hamada and Tunisian director Lassaad Oueslat, tells five stories that take place simultaneously in different parts of the world and differ in detail, but overlap when each protagonist falls into slavery. The international cast includes Fayez Bin Jurays, Apeksha Porwal, Al Anoud Saud and Janique Charles. Shahid owner told MBC Periodic market was filmed in over 100 locations with 70 protagonists and over 17,000 extras. It’s another demonstration of the region’s commitment to major television attractions. Saudi Arabia now has a tax break and is working on other big budget offerings such as fantasy series Rise of the Witches.
VX Outfit Alkemy X expands to Canada
EXCLUSIVE: VX outfit Alkemy X has expanded into Canada, opening an office in Vancouver led by Emmy-nominated head of 2D Michael Porterfield. Alkemy X said the move reflects a “dramatic surge” in demand for VFX work for streaming and feature films. Porterfield, who joined the 40-year-old outfit in mid-2022 after working at Netflix, among others Don’t look up and that of Apple TV+ Lisey’s story, will lead the team in Vancouver, with Los Angeles-based executive creative director Jep Hill, executive producer Mark Miller and executive producer Ben Benedetti overseeing overall creative direction and growth. “The West Coast has been a key area of growth for our powerful visual effects team over the past two years, and as Vancouver continues to grow as a key post-production location, it was a natural next step for our growing VFX department,” said Justin Wineburgh, President and CEO of Alkemy X said.
BBC appears for US version of The Traitors
The BBC has the American version of it The traitors. The show, which launched on Peacock earlier this week after the UK version became a huge hit, lands today as an iPlayer box set. In the traitors, A group of people go to a Scottish castle where the “loyal” must exterminate the “traitors” to win a huge cash prize of up to $250,000. The UK version was streamed over 28 million times on iPlayer, according to the BBC, and quickly gained cult status. The American version of the original Dutch format features some celebrities in addition to non-celebrities and is hosted by Alan Cumming. All3Media International has struck a deal with Peacock owner NBCUniversal.
Blue Ant promotes Love Nature Execs
Blue Ant Media has promoted streamer Love Nature’s general manager, Carlyn Staudt, in a reorganization that has resulted in a number of executives taking on expanded roles. Staudt becomes general manager, Love Nature and head of commissioning, Global Media, while there are also promotions for Julie Chang, Sam Linton and James Manfull. Staudt will oversee all launches of the Canadian powerhouse’s free streaming and linear channels in North America and internationally. Katie Bauer Murdock has also joined as Executive Producer, reporting to Alison Barrat. “As we expand Blue Ant Media’s channel presence around the world, the scale of our original content is critical to ensuring we deliver brands that are both unique and internationally relevant,” said Jamie Schouela, President of GlobalMedia at Blue Ant. The promotions and hires follow a year in which Blue Ant expanded its Love Nature reach across 12 FAST platforms in the US and launched four global FAST channels in the growing space.

BBC Three is the latest network to explore the Wagatha Christie saga in a single documentary. Titled Guardspiracy: Vardy vs. Rooney, The Curious Films show has gained access to key sources who did not testify at the trial, including a leading journalist involved in the stories that led to Coleen Rooney’s infamous “It’s…Rebekah Vardy” tweet. The saga, in which the wives of two English footballers, Rooney and Vardy, went to court because one claimed the other had leaked stories about them, has already been covered in the Channel 4 drama. Vardy vs. Rooney: A Courtroom Drama and an upcoming Disney+ doc, while Deadline revealed yesterday that the BBC has another retelling in its Very English scandal Beach.
